Be a PhD student doesn't mean that you have to stay in your lab only doing your experiments.
Each doctoral school got her own rules to defend (training, committee, mandatory events...). Please, vite the different doctoral school website (links below)
Each PhD student got a favored acces to trainning session propose by the dosctoral school or by the federal univeristy of Toulouse. Each PhD student can register to the sessions of his choice via his personnal account on ADUM.
This personnal space can give you a global vision of your three years as a PhD students : Tranning session available, sessions you've already followed or general information about PhD are available.
In any cases this personnal space can replace the advices of the dosctoral school.If you have any specific questions, please, don't hesitate top contact the secretary fo the school you are registered in.

The research grant
*Article 14 de l’arrêté du 7 août 2006 :
"Pour une inscription d’un candidat en doctorat, les écoles doctorales se prononcent sur son aptitude à la recherche sur la base, au minimum, de l’appréciation d’une expérience de recherche sanctionnée par une soutenance orale et un rapport ou un mémoire de recherche."

The research grant is the salary give by the French research departement each month as defined by your contract of employment (3 years duration in France). Thanks to this grant you must dedicate your time to your research project for the preparation of your thesis.
YOu can get this grant thanbks to defferents ways :
- Get the grant from the French research departement (exam of the Doctoral School)
- Get the grant from specific research grant apply (ANR)
- Get the grant from fundations (ARC for Cancer, France ALzheimer)
- Get the grant from an industrial contract (CIFRE). More information about CIFRE program here (French document)

This Charter is a formal statement of agreement between the doctoral student, the research supervisor(s), the director of the research unit and the host institution.
This Charter is based on the principles set out by the French Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research in the Order of 3 September 1998 on Thesis Charters, the Order of 7 August 2006 on doctoral studies and the Order of 6 January 2005, amended by that of 7 August 2005, on the international joint supervision of doctoral research, clarifying their details in accordance with the established policy and support mechanisms of the Doctoral School of the Université de Toulouse (Higher Education and Research Cluster).

Thesis charter

« L'autorisation de soutenir une thèse est accordée par le chef d'établissement, après avis du directeur de l'école doctorale, sur proposition du directeur de thèse.
Les travaux du doctorant sont préalablement examinés par au moins deux rapporteurs désignés par le chef d'établissement, habilités à diriger des recherches ou appartenant à l'une des catégories mentionnées au 1° et au 2° de l'article 16 du présent arrêté, sur proposition du directeur de l'école doctorale, après avis du directeur de thèse.».

To defend, you must announce your defence to your doctoral school on your personnal ADUM space. Then you may edit the cover of your manuscript available on the website of the Federal University of Toulouse

Teaching
Be a teacher while you are a PhD student, it is possible !
At the University Paul Sabatier, different ways can give you access to teaching :
- Obtain an ATER (Attacher Temporaire d'Enseignement et de Recherche) position. More informations on the recruitement page of the University website.
- Obtain a DCCE (Doctorant Contractuel Chargé d'Enseignement) position
- Obtain a supply teascher position (<64h of teaching). You may first download and complete "holding multiple offices" form on the intranet of the University Paul Sabatier.
